CHAPTER VIDEOS 11-20
Quotes to Ponder . . . What’s your response to these lines/scenes in the novel?
- At the start of chapter 11, Zack muses “When unbelievers are nervous about going to church, it often means they see it as something formidable . . . They may be recognizing God as a real Power, and a gathering of his people as significant.” Do you think Zack’s right?
- In chapter 14 (on the roof), Zack’s dad says that “People are tolerable tiresome,” and that can “gradually be wearing (him) down.” Is Zack’s dad really talking about people doing this? Are there other things that are gradually wearing him down? What things?
- Near the end of chapter 15, Zack considers “I was surprised how much I really wanted to be there for Richard.” Why does Zack want to “be there” for Richard? Might Zack be thinking about more than Richard’s needs? What larger need might Zack be pondering?
- In the opening line of chapter 20, the ambulance arrives “fast.” Why does Zack thank “God that Rafer was getting what he needed quickly”? At this point in the novel, does Zack believe God controls such things? Is Zack just hoping that God does? Or is something deeper going on?
