CHAPTER VIDEOS 21-28

Quotes to Ponder . . . What’s your response to these lines/scenes in the novel?

  1. Think about the last sentences in chapter 22: “When you’re a kid, tragic and comic moments overlap. Your heart is light enough then to know the difference. Joy is our true, original destiny. Tragedy is the stranger.” Do you think this is accurate? If it is, should these truths change how we live?
  2. In chapter 23, Zack asks his buddy Donnie if he (Zack) should be mad at God about Rafer’s illness. Donnie answers “Only if you think God is real.” Why is Donnie’s answer startling? Does it give Zack insight into God’s reality? Are faith and anger related?
  3. In chapter 24, the kids sneak the dog Sawdust into the hospital to see Rafer. Isn’t that cool? (I just thought you’d like a breather from all these heavy “Quotes to Ponder).”
  4. The dream in chapter 25 is about heaven. It may be more accurate for me to write it is not “about” heaven, but a promise of heaven existing in the “here-and-now,” rather than being some distant reality. What parts of the dream did you like? Did any parts trouble you?
